Breaking the Silence on Mental Health
Mental health has long been a taboo subject in rural India, with stigma preventing people from seeking help. Depression, anxiety, and trauma go untreated, affecting individuals, families, and entire communities. Our Mental Health Awareness Campaign aimed to change this narrative by bringing professional support and education to villages across West Bengal and Assam.
Over five months, we established community-based mental health programs in 30 villages. Our team of psychologists, counselors, and community health workers conducted awareness sessions, provided individual and group counseling, and trained local volunteers as mental health first responders. The program reached over 1,000 individuals and families, creating a support network that continues to grow.

Creating Safe Spaces for Healing
We established "Maan Mitra" (Mind Friend) support groups in each village—safe spaces where community members could share their struggles without judgment. These weekly meetings, facilitated by trained volunteers, covered topics like stress management, coping with loss, addressing domestic issues, and building resilience. The groups created a powerful sense of solidarity and mutual support.
For those needing professional help, we provided free individual counseling sessions. Our psychologists addressed cases ranging from mild anxiety to severe depression and trauma. We connected individuals with ongoing mental health issues to nearby clinics and established a telephonic helpline for continued support. The campaign also focused on youth, conducting special sessions in schools on emotional well-being and stress management.

Stories of Hope and Recovery
"I was suffering from severe depression after losing my husband," shares Anita Das, a participant. "I thought I was alone and weak. The support group helped me realize many others face similar struggles, and it's okay to seek help." Ranjan, a young teacher, adds, "The stress management techniques I learned have transformed my life. I'm calmer, more focused, and can handle challenges better."
